(Video) Erk Tha Jerk – Anything

While fans eagerly await the November 9th release of Erk Tha Jerk’s Nerd’s Eye View he has offered up The Prelude, a free pre-album EP, to appease the masses. While the EP contains a few tracks from the album, there are also a number of exclusive tracks on the project, including the track highlighted for Erk’s latest video, “Anything.” The steamy new video was directed and edited by Erk himself, with the only outside help coming from accomplished photog and Oakland native Demondre Ward, who orchestrated the lighting..

The sultry video that is Erk’s personal ode to women is complemented by a fittingly melodic and seductive beat. When asked of his inspiration for the song the California emcee puts it simply, “Women, Cute Women!” With steamy lyrics like, “the lions mouth will devour your entire blouse,” and a bevy of tempting vixens center stage, the sexual tension is more than palpable. Suggestive symbols are scattered throughout, including deep passionately colored backdrops, empty champagne bottles, lipstick-stained love notes, and, of course, seductively eaten strawberries. Erk says the video was “My vision coming to life, being able to use the different colors to show women and their beauty.” for the rapper the video was as enjoyable to make as it is to watch. His message is simple “Women of all colors, shapes, and sizes are sexy as hell. And I like ‘em all.”

(AHH) A3C 2010: The West Coast Way

Atlanta, Ga.-The A3C Festival is an Annual Hip Hop celebration that displays the diversity of urban music by inviting hundreds of emcees, producers, and industry affiliates to exhibit their interpretation of rhythm and rhyme. Attendees came from coast to coast to network, promote and perform. Friday October 8th this Hip Hop extravaganza was swimming with rappers from the Bay area.

California Lyricist included: The Jacka, J-Stalin, Willie Joe, Erk tha Jerk and Mistah F.A.B.

These mentioned artists have won the West-one album, one mix tape, one promo tour at a time. California’s own, ErkthaJerk, has an album approaching titled Nerds Eye View fully loaded with radio rotated hits like “Right Here.” Erk says his family and life lessons inspire him the most. Freestyle Cypher Erk Tha Jerk x The Jacka x Moe Green x DaVinci

Bay Area MCs Erk Tha Jerk, The Jacka, Moe Green and DaVinci stopped through Ozone on their way to rock A3C this past weekend, so we decided to put them on the spot, with a freestyle cypher. ERK THA JERK – PERFECT MISTAKE

Erk Tha Jerk‘s new clip for “Perfect Mistake,” a single off The Prelude, the forthcoming free EP release and precursor to his imminent debut Nerd’s Eye View, breaks music video conventions in such a way that it’s hard to consider it a part of the same medium – less MTV fare than short film. A tale of crime and betrayal, the video captures the aftermath of what appears to have been a diamond heist and follows a Bonnie and Clyde-esque couple, played by Erk and R&B Singer Netta. And while many have made songs to serve as a metaphor for their relationship with music, here, Erk takes things one step further, serving up a video that acts as a metaphor for an artist’s relationship with the music industry that exploits and sells the music. “Netta represents the music industry in the video,” explains the Bay Area rapper. “The diamonds represent the fancy things that ‘it’ can bring. In the video, it makes me feel wanted, then, in the end, sets me up and leaves me worse off that when I started.”

One of the more interesting points to note is the fact that “Perfect Mistake” only plays throughout the first two-thirds of the clip. In the final minute, the drama is heightened through the use of a propulsive percussion track followed by thirty seconds of complete silence. Erk, himself, was the force behind the video and it’s important to recognize how the song’s lyrics mirror the creative process. “The line ‘I’m sick and you can feel me coming like the flu / I ain’t never ran, but I run it like I do,’ is something that captures the mood,” the rapper explains. “It’s a nod to people who find it hard to believe that I work hard, from producing the music to directing the video.” It can be a risk when any artist is as hands-on with his vision as Erk Tha Jerk. Here, though, congratulations are in order, as both the song and the video are a triumph.

At first glance, you would not assume that Erk was a rapper/producer/songwriter, but with his trademark glasses, wit, and laid back persona, he brings something that your average music listener can embrace and relate to.
